A Little About
Myself.

I earned my doctorate degree from the University of California, San Diego in Sociology with an emphasis in the subfields of Environmental Sociology, Political Economy, and Law & Society.

Professionally, I have experience as both an academic and as a practitioner. My interests in both capacities intersect and complement each other.

As a sociologist, I study macro-level social issues and relationships. My research examines society's relationship to the environment and how this translates into policy choices. My theoretical lenses include issues of risk, modernity, and the kind of ontological insecurity that arises in the face of global environmental crises. I am also interested in policy, politics, and society's relationship with technology, especially as a cause and potential solution to these environmental crises. My dissertation project focused on scientific and political responses to climate change and an analysis of the growing prominence of geoengineering as a potential approach to the crisis.

I have also been involved in a collaborative research project analyzing the role and significance of international common law within various post-colonial jurisdictions.

My previous experience includes management positions within non-profit public benefit organizations, including experience with program and organizational development, management, and strategic visioning in the fields of international microfinance, education, and environmental preservation.

Currently, I teach in the sociology department at the University of San Francisco. My book,
Geoengineering Discourse Confronting Climate Change: The Move from Margins to Mainstream in Science, News Media, and Politics, is now available for pre-order.
